In 2020, General Electric Company (GE) was a $95 billion high-tech industrial company that employed approximately 205,000 people and served customers in over 170 countries. GE’s Corporate Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) team delivered company-wide governance and oversight in that area. In 2016, the unit identified a potential for high-risk contractor operations that company leaders wanted to address proactively. This vignette describes the development of an AI-enabled document assessment application that served GE EHS professionals as a bolt-on application for use during the contractor onboarding process.
